Marie first raised attention on the internet with her cover of H.O.L.Y. that had 1.8 million views in the 24 hours after the video was posted.[2] She had her début on the Grand Ole Opry stage at the age of 13 and signed to the label Warner Music Nashville at the same day.[3] She released two singles since then and created two music videos. Early lifeMarie was born in Detroit and grew up along with her brother and her mother and father in Grand Blanc, a suburb of Flint, Michigan.[4] She first discovered her passion for music with the help of her dad’s karaoke machine at the age of 3 and he recorded a video of her singing The Climb by Miley Cyrus and uploaded it to the internet.[5] She started to play the guitar at 6 and wrote her first song two years later.[6] Her dad started uploading her covers on the website sweetyhigh.com, a platform specialised in young female artists, when she was 7 years old.[7] The platform saw the videos and signed a management contract with her later.[8] She visited the Grand Ole Opry for the first time a year before she had her début on the stage as a visitor.[9] She met her idol Kelsea Ballerini in December 2015 and sung together with her the song Love Me Like You Mean It.[6] CareerWhile uploading covers, Tegan Marie started to publish through her management company Sweet High one single in 2015 and two in 2016. She promoted her song "Lucky Me" in 2016 on Good Morning America.[10] Afterwards the artist signed a record deal with Warner Music Nashville at the age of 9 and had her début on the Grand Ole Opry at the same day.[3] Her music was influenced by Luke Bryan, Kelsea Ballerini, Zac Brown Band, Carrie Underwood, and Maddie & Tae.[9][11] Her biggest success yet was the cover of Florida Georgia Line's H.O.L.Y in 2016. The video was watched within three days over 8 million times and brought her national attention.[2] Until 2017 Marie accumulated over 100 million video views throughout all platforms.[12] Billboard, HuffPost, and Rolling Stone called her a rising country artist and a country artist to watch in 2018. [13][14][15] As an active Girl Scout she performed for them at the 2018 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and later appeared alongside with John O'Hurley and Garrett Clayton on the production of Peter Pan & Tinker Bell: A Pirate’s Christmas at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center. In 2018 she published two songs under the new label, "Keep It Lit" and "I Know How To Make A Boy Cry".
