I notice that ITWIKI does not, AFAICT, have an article titled Urlo della Sibilla or similar. Perhaps a short mention in Sibillini Mountains? Sam Sailor 15:32, 2 October 2018 (UTC)}}

On July 3, 2015, a group of three Italian researchers from The X-Plan Group witnessed the appearance of a giant shadow on Mount Priora in Sibillini Mountains. The shadow was shaped as the profile of a veiled woman in the act of screaming. The shadow was visible for about 8 minutes before it disappeared.

The pictures taken on that day were published by the local online journal Cronache Maceratesi[1] and initially registered 11,000 hits.

Following the 2016 series of earthquakes which struck Central Italy within the Sibillini Mountains radius, the general public viewed the shadow of the previous year as a warning from the Appennines Sibyl, a sorceress who is said to dwell the underground caves of Mount Sibilla (in front of Mount Priora where the shadow appeared).

After the quakes, the shadow became known as the Cry of the Sibyl and the story of his appearance went viral with more than 150000 hits and 50000 sharings on Facebook.

The story was included in the Cronache Maceratesi Yearbook 2016[2] as one of the notable facts concerning the earthquakes in Central Italy

In the January 2017 issue #500 of the Catholic Magazine Chiesa Viva[3], author Franco Adessa published a 12-page study on the Cry of the Sibyl, concluding that the shadow would prove the existence of an evile presence in the Sibillini Mountains. Adessa wrote (pag. 7):

"...although in the partial sketching of the three triangles...they (the three researchers) have played a fundamental role in suggesting elements which have led to define the hideous satanic reality lingering over the Sibillini Mountains for centuries..."

In 2017 Journalist Maurizio Verdenelli and author Luciano Magnalbo'[4] published Una Tragedia Dimenticata[5], a collection of contributions by various authors about the history of earthquakes in Central Italy. The Cry of the Sibyl experience was included as told by journalist Marco Ribechi, who was the first to receive the story directly from the eye witnesses, and publish it in 2015.

Since then, many photographers have ventured up to Mount Sibilla to see if the shadow would reappear, but no other sightings have been reported so far.
