The Lonesome Strangers are an American country music band formed by singer-songwriters Randy Weeks and Jeff Rymes in 1982. Their musical performances and compositions have spanned the genres of rock, country music, Americana, New wave, rockabilly , alternative country, folk rock, power pop, country rock and pop rock.

The Lonesome Strangers were part of the vibrant 1980s Southern California roots music scene, sharing stages with the likes of artists such as Dwight Yoakam, Los Lobos, The Blasters, Wall Of Voodoo and the American rock band X.

The Lonesome Strangers have released a total of three studio albums, each produced by Dwight Yoakam lead-guitarist Pete Anderson. Anderson included their song "Lonesome Pine" on the 1985 compilation A Town South of Bakersfield, which gave crucial early exposure to Dwight Yoakam, Rosie Flores, James Intveld, and other related Americana-oriented artists from the burgeoning music scene in Los Angeles and Bakersfield.

The Lonesome Strangers' music combines elements of honky-tonk revivalism with songs containing full band arrangements featuring electric and acoustic instruments in addition to rich harmonies reminiscent of fraternal duos such as The Everly Brothers and the Delmore Brothers.

Founding members Randy Weeks, a transplant from Minnesota, and Jeff Rymes, a Colorado native, co-wrote most of the band's material and have served as the core of the group. Their initial rhythm section featured bassist Nino Del Pesco and former Wall of Voodoo drummer Joe Nanini.

Pete Anderson produced their debut studio album entitled "Lonesome Pine," which was released on the independent label known as Wrestler. Nanini left the band after the album sessions were completed but before it was released, causing new drummer Mike McLean to appear with the group on the artwork. During this period, The Lonesome Strangers toured behind Dwight Yoakam and Dave Alvin, after which Del Pesco departed and was replaced by Lorne Rall.

Weeks and Rymes contributed backing vocals to Dwight Yoakam's acclaimed studio album "Buenos Noches From a Lonely Room" in 1988, and the Lonesome Strangers moved to a larger label by signing a record deal with Hightone Records. The Lonesome Strangers issued their second album, an eponymous effort in 1989.

The band went on hiatus when Rymes relocated to the East Coast. During the 1990s, Rymes returned to Los Angeles and reunited with Weeks. The Lonesome Strangers released a new studio album in 1997, entitled "Land of Opportunity." Produced by Pete Anderson and released on his Little Dog imprint, the album was co-produced by him and Dusty Wakeman, who played bass in addition to contributions from drummer Jim Christie and keyboardist Skip Edwards.

Currently, The Lonesome Strangers are on hiatus as both Weeks and Rymes have relocated and each remain active as solo artists.

Rymes has recorded two solo albums and continues to perform. In 2018, Kelly Willis recorded the song "Don't Step Away," which was co-written by Rymes and Weeks and can be found on her recent studio album entitled "Back Being Blue."

Lucinda Williams recorded Weeks' song "Can't Let Go," which was included on her 1998 album Car Wheels on a Gravel Road. Car Wheels on a Gravel Road won a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album, and received a nomination for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance for the Weeks-penned single "Can't Let Go". Weeks continues to perform and has released four solo albums.
