Mastery Transcript Consortium

The Mastery Transcript Consortium (MTC) is a non-profit, global network of member schools co-designing a new high school transcript that reflects the unique skills, strengths, and interests of each learner–and that supports educators as they deliver deeply personalized, student driven learning that is based in authentic engagement and designed to educate the “whole student,” and prepare them for success in college, career, and life.

Approach

The Mastery Transcript will move from crediting student time spent in single-subject courses to crediting demonstrated achievement of Mastery Credits which are earned when students have mastered skills, content knowledge, and habits of mind as defined by individual schools. Foundational Mastery Credits correspond to a school’s graduation requirements, while Advanced Mastery Credits highlight those areas in which students have chosen to invest their extra time and energy. Students will be able to submit samples of their work as evidence of achievement, and highlight credits and work they are particularly proud of on their college and employment applications.
