The Phantom: The Complete Comic Strips is an unofficial umbrella name for the two book series, The Phantom: The Complete Newspaper Dailies and The Phantom: The Complete Sundays which each collect the complete run of the daily strip respectively Sunday strip of the american comic strip The Phantom. The daily comic strip strip which debuted in 1936 and later spawned the Sunday strip which began in 1939 ^[1], both strips were originally syndicated by King Features Syndicate. These two reprint collections are published by Hermes Press.

Background

In February 2009 it was announced that Hermes Press was going to reprint the entire run of the Sy Barry's run of the comic strip The Phantom, beginning in 1936 and ending in 1994. As the strip had one daily continuity and another different plot for the Sunday strip, the publisher stated it would release three volumes of dailies each year and one volume featuring five years of the Sunday strip, per year. The start of the series was scheduled for September 2009.^[2]

Format

Dailies collection

9 × 11.75 inches (229 mm × 299 mm) landscape hardcover, with dust jacket and endpapers, the paperstock is 100# matte finish coated, sections of extras in full color and the strip itself reproduced in black-and-white. The comic strips are arranged two strips per page. Introductions and essasys by Ron Goulart, Ed Rhoades and Mike Bullock among others. The primary source fo the reproduction are the original press proofs. The MSRP per dailiy volume is set to $49,99.^[3]^[4]^[5]^[6]^[7]

Sundays collection

10 inches × 13 inches, (254 mm × 330 mm). Hardcover with dust jacket. the Sunday strip is digitally recolored.^[8]
