The Room is a British band founded by former Grey Lady Down^[1]^[2] (GLD) vocalist Martin Wilson, Guitarist Steve Anderson, also from sphere3 and Prime Cut Bass Guitarist Andy Rowe in 2010

Background

Singer, Martin Wilson left GLD with the aim of moving away from his Neo-progressive rock roots and starting a band playing more accessible progressive rock. The project he created was called Big Fish and he recruited Andy Rowe on Bass Guitar to join his old friend Andrew Rae on Drums along with a couple of local guitarists. A visit to Platform Studios in Berkshire with Producer Damon Sawyer confirmed Martins view that the project wasnt working. Following the release of the two guitarists he called on his ex GLD^[3] Guitarist Steve Anderson who joined along with Keyboard player Steve Checkley. The project was renamed The Room after the rehearsal studios in Farnborough where the band first came together.

The band spent 2010/11 writing songs for their debut album as well as trying out the material at a few select dates. Returning to Platform Studios the band recorded the album Open Fire, again with Producer Damon Sawyer. The album was released^[4] in late 2012 on Melodic Revolution Records

The first change in the bands line up was enforced when Drummer Andrew Rae was diagnosed with tinnitus. He decided to quit the business and was replaced with Chris York. The band signed to Bad Elephant Music^[5] in 2014 and recorded theri second album again with Damon Sawyer at Platform Studio and released^[6] the album in November 2015. The release was supported with a tour in the winter of 2015. In 2016 The Room were nominated in the Best New Band category at the Classic Rock Society Awards

In October 2016 The Room hired The Robin 2 BilstonUnited Kingdom to film a live show^[7] for self release on DVD^[8]in Feb 2017. The film was made by Leigh Tarrent and Chris Grout-Smith.

In 2018 to further strengthen the line up the band recruited a second Guitarist, Eric Bouillette^[9] who had recently moved to Reading from his home in Nice. The second enforced lineup change came in 2018 when Keyboard player Steve Checkley changed jobs and was unable to balance work and the music business along with the growing demands of his family and so left the band. He was replaced by Mark Dixon.

Recording of the bands third studio album took place accross the summer of 2018 at Outhouse Studio with producer John Mitchell (musician). On December 4th 2019 the band announced they had signed to White Star Records and at the same time they released the single Broken from the album Caught By The Machine. The album is scheduled for release in February 2019.
