释义 |
The Second Shelf is a bookstore, website, and print Quarterly Book Review that showcases, sells, and encourages the collecting of books written by women[1]. The phrase "The Second Shelf" originates from an article by American author Meg Wolitzer. [2] The proprietor of The Second Shelf is A.N. Devers. A.N. Devers is the author of the forthcoming book Train, to be published by March 2019 by Bloomsbury UK.[3] The Second Shelf bookstore opens in November 2018 and is located at 14 Smith's Ct Soho, London, UK. Devers maintains an active online presence on Twitter and Instagram that she has used to generate awareness of the disparity between men and women in all aspects of the literary field. Her tweets about the omission of Brigid Hughes as editor of The Paris Review became a reader-funded Longreads story [4]'. Leveraging her online presence, Devers generated start-up funding for The Second Shelf project by a successful Kickstarter Campaign that raised ₤32,000 on its ₤20,000 Goal. [5] . Devers has contacted author Lauren Groff online to ask her to be on the advisory board of The Second Shelf project.[6] Devers maintains an Instagram account for the project called secondshelfbooks appraising followers of new books in the collection, upcoming events, book fairs, and store status updates. The first print edition of The Second Shelf, A Quarterly of Rare Books was published in the Autumn of 2018.
