There once was a small child who lived on a farm. He acted strange sometimes and so his parents would get scared. But they soon got used to it and ignored him. One day, he wouldn't get out of bed. He just sat there and kept on muttering to himself. His parents were puzzled. Usually he was happy to get out of bed. "Ben?" his mother asked. "Are you okay?" "They know," Ben muttered. "They all know." His parents were shocked. Who were "they"? What did "they" know? But they just thought Ben was being the strange child that he was. Ben kept on muttering and sitting in his bed. Finally his father had enough. He picked up the boy and set him on the floor. Ben looked up. He spoke to his dad in a strange tone. "Dad, you shouldn't have done that." "Why?" his dad asked, puzzled. "They can feel us. They can feel us all." His parents were very puzzled now. Ben usually just sat there. He was never this sure of anything. But now he was. In the end, they decided to eat their breakfast and talk about it later. They all trudged down the stairs, expecting Ben's sister to be sitting there, waiting for them. Instead, they found her with a knife in her chest. Dead. Ben simply looked at his parents and said four words. "I told you so." Both Ben's mother and father were too shocked to speak. They simply stood there, frozen. |
