Samdech Chaufea Veang Thiounn, born in Kampong Chhnang on the 8th and died in September 1946, is a Cambodian politician. He was Minister of the Palace, Finance and Fine Arts under the French Protectorate of Cambodia.

Biography

Brought to France by Auguste Pavie in 1885 at the Cambodian school, Thiounn was appointed interpreter on February 1, 1888 to be attached to the Pavia Mission. After several years with the explorers Pavie and Pierre Lefevre-Pontalis, he was placed with King Norodom I by the Resident Superior Boulloche and appointed Minister of the Palace, Finance and Fine Arts. In 1906, he accompanied King Sisowath to France, writing the story of his journey. Thiounn, then with the honorary titles of Samdech Chaufea Veang, will perform these same functions throughout the reigns of Norodom I, Sisowath and Sisowath Monivong. He was also Prime Minister of King Norodom Sihanouk, at the very beginning of his reign.
