Tilly Steele is a British actress, best known for her roles as Miss Cleary in Victoria^[1]^[2] and as Willa Twiston in Doctor Who.^[3]

Career

Steele's first professional role was in an episode of Sky1's amateur detective series Agatha Raisin, based upon the book series by MC Beaton.^[4] Subsequently, she played the role of Edith in Barnbow Canaries by Alice Nutter at the Leeds Playhouse,^[5] based on the real-life tragedy of the Barnbow factory disaster.^[6]

In 2017, she landed the role of Queen Victoria's dresser and Mrs Skerrett's assistant,^[7] Miss Cleary, in Victoria.^[8] Miss Cleary's storyline surrounded the Great Potato Famine,^[9] as she tried to save her family back home in Ireland.^[10]^[11]^[12]

Steele has recently appeared in Doctor Who, in the episode The Witchfinders,^[13]^[14]^[15] alongside Alan Cumming and Siobhan Finneran. She plays Willa Twiston, a young girl who is accused of witchcraft.^[15]^[16]

Personal life

Steele is originally from Barrow-in-Furness.^[17] She is a graduate of the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School^[18].
