The featured article focuses on the Ku Klux Klan's visit to Tipton in order to recruit membership.[2] In 1973, The New York Times featured the Tipton County Tribune when it was sold to the current owner, Elwood Publishing.[3] HistoryThe Tipton County Tribune was preceded by the Tipton Daily Tribune (1865-1971), The Daily Tribune (1971-1976), Tribune (1976-1980). According to the book Indiana Newpaper Bibliography[4], The Tipton County Tribune was originally published in October 1865 by A.M Ramsey and J.E. Anderson, as a politically independent daily paper. In 1897, J.E. Anderson sold his portion to Ira O'Banion. In 1897, the publication was circulated weekly until 1905. In 1926, Floyd Ramsey and Clayton O'Banion, sons of the owners continued to publish The Tribune until 1943, when Floyd Ramsey died. Jack Ramsey inherited his father’s share. In 1946, he sold the paper to the O’Banion family. After Ira and Clayton O'Banion died the O'Banion family sold the paper to Roy Barnes, who continued the publication until 1980.
