释义 |
Tom was born into a fourth generation of greengrocers in Bloomsbury, London and worked in the fruit trade until 1998. His first ventures into sculpture began by making elaborate pieces using fruit and vegetables, and then gradually progressed into using slate and metal. His experiments with stone and the wearing influence of water have very much dictated the direction of his work. Repetition and movement are recurring themes but always with a strong sense of calm. The pieces vary in size and stature, but each is made up of many smaller component parts, which are in turn wrestled into a larger space. His work is a combination of found and worked material; he uses what is best described as an abrasive ‘washing machine’ to create different shapes and textures to the stone. His work ranges from small maquettes to large interior and exterior commissions. He was elected as an associate of the Royal Society of British Sculptors in 2012. Tom is married to Rebecca, a florist, and (two young sons permitting) spends long periods in his studio in Oxford. He is represented by Crane Kalman Gallery, London. 2018 London Art Fair with Crane Kalman Armory Show, NYC with Crane Kalman Galley Tom Stogdon, Crane Kalman Gallery, London June - July 2017 London Art Fair with Crane Kalman Armory Show, NYC with Crane Kalman Galley Masterpiece London with Crane Kalman Gallery 2016 London Art Fair with Crane Kalman Armory Show, NYC with Crane Kalman Galley Masterpiece London with Crane Kalman Gallery Exhibited at Onform 2015 London Art Fair with Crane Kalman Armory Show, NYC with Crane Kalman Galley Featured on the M&G Garden at Chelsea Flower Show, London Masterpiece Art Fair, London with Crane Kalman Gallery 2014 London Art Fair with Crane Kalman Armory Show, NYC with Crane Kalman Galley Tom Stogdon, Made and Found, Crane Kalman Gallery, London On Form, Asthall Manor, Oxfordshire 2013 Shortlisted for the RBS Brian Mercer Bronze Residency 2014, in Pietrasanta, Italy Large commission for Firmdale Hotels, NYC Armory show NYC with Crane Kalman London Art Fair with Crane Kalman Chelsea Flower Show, award won 2012 Armory show NYC with Crane Kalman London Art Fair with Crane Kalman 20/21 International Art Fair with Crane Kalman Chelsea Flower Show, award won 2011 Crane Kalman Gallery, joint show with Nicholas Jones Chelsea Flower show, award won Bologna Art Fair with Crane Kalman 20/21 International Art Fair with Crane Kalman London Art Fair with Crane Kalman 2010 CAA Percy St, Kit Kemp curated show 20/21 International Art Fair with Crane Kalman Gallery Chelsea flower show, award won The Gallery at Anthropology London private show London Art Fair 2010, with Crane Kalman Gallery Bologna Art Fair 2010, with Crane Kalman Gallery 2009 Chelsea Flower Show – award won Newby Hall Sculpture Show, Yorkshire RHS Wisley Mixed Sculpture Show RHS London Spring Plant & Design Show Private Art Show in support of Mencap, London 2008 Inner Temple Show, London Chelsea flower Show – award won RHS London Spring Plant & Design Show Borde Hill Sculpture Show Newby Hall Sculpture Show, Yorkshire 2007 Crane Kalman Gallery, London Various group shows with Surrey Sculpture Society: Borde Hill, Losely House, Wisley and Saville Gardens, Windsor Great Park Vivartis Art Show at King Edward VII in Surrey 2006 Commission for Grove Hotel in Hertfordshire, a wall hanging in the main lobby comprising of 2,650 preserved magnolia leaves.
