Koffler wanted to address the issues surrounding artists who were barred from displaying their artwork in front of Old City Hall, by bringing the opportunity for artists to display their works in a non-city owned location[2]. The outdoor fair is a three-day long event and historically occurs annually on the second weekend in July at Nathan Phillips Square, located in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The exhibition was originally located at a Four Seasons Hotel on Jarvis Street, also established by Koffler, until 1967 before relocating to the new City Hall Square, presently Nathan Phillips Square, to accommodate its growing size[3] The Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition became a registered charity in 1981, the organization's charitable status remains under the original name.[4][5] Notable ArtistsNotable artists who participated in Toronto Outdoor Art Fair at the start of their careers include Edward Burtynsky, Ken Danby, David Blackwood, Thrush Holmes, Harlan House, Rob Gonsalves, Joanne Tod, and Jennifer Stead. SponsorsAs a not-for-profit organization and a registered charity, Toronto Outdoor Art Fair receives support from public funders, donors, sponsors, and in-kind donations to support the Fair and keep costs low for participating artists. Henderson Brewing Company sponsors Toronto Outdoor Art Fair and annually creates a custom brew and beer label in a collaboration between an emerging artist and emerging brewer. Higgins Event Rentals has been a sponsor and supporter of Toronto Outdoor Art Fair for over 20 years.
