Trans History Month provides role models, builds community, and represents a civil rights statement about the contributions of the trans community. Currently, Trans History Month is a month-long celebration that is still in its initial stages. It is celebrated in November to coincide with Transgender Day of Remembrance on November 20. In the United States{{hatnote|Not to be confused with LGBT Pride Month celebrated in June.}}{{See also |Transgender American history}}Transgender History Month originated in the United States, and was first celebrated in 2018. It was proposed by trans activist Emma Frye and announced by the organization QAF: Liberation History in the Making based in Johnson City, TN, in Northeast Tennessee. The group known as Middle Tennessee Trans Men based in Nashville, TN, also assisted in drawing attention to this event. November was chosen by Emma Frye as the month for the celebration because Transgender Day of Remembrance already was established as a widely known event, on November 20, and to avoid other widely known history months.
