Transilient is a traveling photo and interview-based project. It candidly documents transgender and gender non-conforming people in their day-to-day lived realities using only their voices. The project attempts to humanize, educate and destroy the assumption that trans folks are solely defined by their physical experience and their oppression. To bring about understanding and tackle transphobia Transilient aims to weave transgender lives into the overall human experience instead of merely focusing on the transition. Their objective is to create a platform that is accessible to all people, in and out of the trans community.Transilient was created in response to the infamous bathroom bill HB2. Basil Vaughn Soper, the project's founder, organized for LGBT rights in Asheville, NC. He is a writer and photographer that decided to use his skills in order to change the narrative created for transgender and non-binary individuals through mainstream media. Transilient focuses on the things outside of the physical and social transition. The project has toured the country three times. Soper has brought different assistants for each tour. Johanna Campbell Case accompanied Soper in 2016 as the project published 36 interviews. Welch being his assistant and Butler looked over operation management. Beck was Soper's assistant and James was in charge of Digital Media Production.
