Company Overview

Trust Power Limited is a UK company based in Oxford, England[1]. Founded in April 2016[2], Trust Power is understood to be developing a new data-centric technology to provide energy customers with detailed usage data to support energy usage decision making and encourage behaviour change.

The company's stated ambition is to save UK households money on their total energy bills by increasing their control of energy.

By assisting customers in reducing their energy usage the company expects to facilitate the reduction of carbon emissions and as a result help to mitigate the negative effects of climate change.

Climate change and energy efficiency

The Committee on Climate Change, in its 2018 Progress Report to Parliament[3], stated that the UK is not on course to meet the legally binding fourth and fifth carbon budgets. Similarly, energy efficiency is a vital pillar of the UK's future energy system and is key to reducing the countries carbon emissions and enabling savings for bill payers.

Smart Meters are an essential step forward in supporting energy efficiency and reducing consumer costs. However, with the current speed of deployment the Government is at significant risk of missing its self-imposed deadline of 2020. In a report by the National Audit office titled "Rolling out smart meters" a key finding indicated that the number of smart meters installed in thew UK will fall materially short of the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) original ambitions of all UK consumers having a smart meter installed by 2020[4].

Oxford as a low carbon city

Oxford is characterised by several organisations pursuing a low carbon and sustainability agenda. These groups which include private, public and not-for-profit organisations, are delivering sustainability projects and initiatives within the city and include amongst others:

  • Low Carbon Oxford - a group of 40 organisations focused on the reduction of carbon emissions in Oxford by 2020
  • Low Carbon Hub - a social enterprise focused on scaling up community-owned renewable energy projects across Oxfordshire including solar projects for schools[5]
  • Low Carbon Oxford North - a resident's group working to help residents of North Oxford to reduce their carbon footprints
  • Low Carbon West Oxford - a resident's group based in Oxford with the aim of combating climate change by reducing community CO2 emissions by 80% by 2050
  • Low Carbon East Oxford - an Oxford community group focused on reducing the carbon footprint of East Oxford
  • Good Food Oxford (GFO - an Oxford company partnering with organisations to promote a healthy, fair, ethical and sustainable food network
