Ustad Baljit Singh (also known as Ustad Baljit Singh Namdhari) (born 12 November 1962) is an Indian classical vocalist and tar shehnai player. He is famous maestro of Tar Shehnai and Dilruba. He belongs to Punjab Gharana.

Personal Life

Ustad Baljit Singh is married to VimalJit Kaur. They have two children, Luxmi Namdhari, a classical vocalist and Kathak dancer, and Fateh Singh, a Tabla player.

Awards

Ustad Baljit Singh has performed in the U.S, U.K., Canada, Thailand, Tanzania, and Nairobi. He has been part of stages including Harrivallabh Sangeet Sammelan, Kalidas Sangeet Sammelan, Tansen Sangeet Samaroh, Hafiz Ali Memorial Sangeet Sammelan, Satguru Pratap Singh Sangeet Sammelan.

Ustad Baljit Singh has won the following awards:

  • In 1983 Ustad Baljit Singh won the first place in "All India Radio Music Competition".
  • In 1998 Ustad Baljit Singh was awarded by "Bhai Mardana Award" in Ludhiana.
  • In 2004 they were pleasured by "Shiromany Ragi Award" by Department of Punjabi Language, Patiala, Punjab.
  • In 2005 Ustad Baljit Singh was awarded again as "Shiromany Ragi Award" but this time by Delhi Govt.

Guru Sangeet Academy

To preserve the art of Gurbani classical music and the old bandishs. He founded the Guru Sangeet Acadamy on October 2016.[1]

Guru Sangeet Festival

Since 2016, every year Ustad Baljit Singh organises "Guru Sangeet Festival" in the remembrance of his Usatd Payara Singh Ji. The first festival was held on December 27, 2017. He also announced the next music festival to be held on 1 November 2017 at Kamani Auditorium.
