Dr. Vanamamalai Varadaacharyulu ( August 16 , 1912 - October 31 , 1984 ) was a leading scholar and author of Telengana state. He was well known for his Telugu literary works in united Andhra Pradeh state .

Birth

He was born on August 16 , 1912 at Madikonda village in Hanumanakonda mandanl in Warangal district. Father BakkayyaSastry was a scholar in Telugu, Sanskrit languages . Mother's name was Seethamma.His brothers were Vanamamalai Jagannatha Charyulu and Vanamamalai Lakshmana Charyulu

Education - Marriage

Born in the farmer's family, the Varada Charya read only up to seventh grade. However, he studied Sanskrit literature, reasoning , philosophy and grammar. He was proficient in Sanskrit , Telugu , Urdu , Hindi and Dravid . At the age of 18, he was married to Jagannathacharya's only daughter Vydehi.

He was a divine blessed poet.He worshiped goddess Sarasvati (Sarasvati Upasana) and acquired her blessings to become a prodigy. On recognizing Vanamamalai's proficiency in literature and arts ,he was appointed by the then Chief Minister of Hyderabad state Burugula Ramakrishna Rao as a cultural program coordinator at the Domakonda Janata College of Nizamabad district through special order. Later, he was given a degree from the Andhra Sahitya Parishad . Upon completion, he was transferred to Chennur High School and worked as a teacher for 13 years and retired in 1972 . The Veda Patashala was set up in Chennur. In 1972, the then Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister P V Narasimha Rao nominated him to the Legislative Council. He was a member of the Legislative Council until 1978 .

In 1973, Gandapenderam (Golden bracelet for ankle) , Swarna Kankanam ( Golden bracelet ), Ratnabhishekam  performed by Bharti Sahitya Samithi at Korutla in Karimnagar district     In 1976, Conferred "Vachaspati" by Sampurnananda Sanskrit University, Varanasi

Works

He started poetry at the age of 13 and contributed around 60 literary works in various categories of Telugu literature.

Following are some of his works. His literary works questioned Autocratic regime of then rulers of state Nizam and inspired people

to fight against them in the process of bringing change. His literary works reflected contemporary situations such as China, Pakistan war, Autocratic rule of Nizam , Gandhi's freedom struggle , communal riots , farmer's life etc.

His book "ManiMala" was set as prescribed book for examination "Andhra Visharada" . Surprisingly Vanamamalai had to read his own book as a lesson while appearing for the examination. His literary works and abstracts from them are set as part of curriculum at school and college level courses.

Documentary

D. Suresh Kumar of Asifabad made a documentary film titled "Mana Vanamamalai" . It was telecast on the television channel Saptagiri Channel 31-10-2010 and 31-08-2011. Nandi Award for the State Government was the second best documentary film of 2010 .

Centenary

His centenary celebration were held between 18-8-2011 to 18-8-2012 . Many meetings were organized by Abhinava Potana Literary and Cultural Association (ALCA) to commemorate great scholar in Telengana and Andhra regions. His statue was unveiled in chennur village of Mancherial district in Telengana state as part of celebrations. His disciples and admirers constituted memorial award "Abhinava Potana Vanamamalai Jeevita Saphalya Puraskaram" which is given to people in recognition of their works in literature every year.
