5. Vanya Asher

Vanya Asher (born December 20th, 1985) was born in Zagreb, Yugoslavia (now Croatia).^[1]. He is an American actor and writer living in Los Angeles, California. Beginning his journey as an actor, Vanya Asher guest starred on Scandal before pursuing writing as his dominant passion. His first pilot, In the Cloud, was sold to Sony's Crackle.

Early Life and Education

Asher was born on December 20, 1985, in Zagreb, Yugoslavia (now Croatia). The son of Bosnian refugees who lived in Sarajevo before settling in Canada following the '90s uprising, he taps into the uncertainty, danger, and unending hope for peace that dominated his youth as a source of strength in his writing.

He graduated from the University of British Columbia with a B.S. in Biopsychology.

Career

He is best known for his recurring role on Eureka^[2]as Lucas from 2007-2009. Asher also guest-starred on Scandal and HBO's The Comeback^[3] before realizing his dream to pursue writing.

Asher also appeared in Dancing Trees^[4] and Incarnate^[5]

In his writing career, his first pilot, In the Clouds, was sold to Sony's Crackle. His debut screenplay, Escape, was written on spec, based on his family's experience in Sarajevo where they lived until the break-up of the country in 1992. It landed on the Blacklist and is currently in development with Colm McCarthy^[6] attached to direct.
