Veer Diwan (born 7 May), is an Indian businessman. Diwan is the son of an Indian business tycoon, Rajendra Diwan the chairman of B Group (an Indian conglomerate that is primarily in the tobacco business) known by the public moniker of “The Beedi King”, and the grandson of the company's previous chairman and industry legend, Naren Diwan. EARLY EDUCATIONVeer Diwan was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu to an Indian Rajendra Diwan and a former airline hostess. His parents are of Punjabi background. The family raised Veer primarily in Chennai. He was the only child in the family. He attended one of India’s most prestigious schools, St. John’s International Residential School in Chennai where he completed his ICSE and ISC exams. He then attended London Business School where he obtained a bachelor's degree in business management. While at the university, he also played on its polo team. He was awarded an MBA degree from Harvard University. CAREERHe worked for a short time in the mergers and acquisitions department at investment bank Credit First Boston. He joined the family business soon after and worked as an analyst. He has been involved in several purchases and mergers since then. He has worked extensively in ventures operated by his uncle. PERSONAL LIFEDiwan is a running enthusiast, having taken part in two Mumbai Marathons, the London Marathon and the Delhi Half Marathon. He has expressed great love for Asian cuisines. He currently splits his time between England and Bangalore. He resides in his family property at 18-19 Kenton Gardens —which was purchased from former English Premiere League boss Bernie Hilton in 2004 for £17 million. The house is decorated with marble taken from the same quarry that supplied the Taj Mahal. It has 7 bedrooms, an indoor pool, and parking for 20 cars. Diwan is a sports car enthusiast and has been seen at a number of car shows around the world. He has stated a preference in American muscle cars. He is a fan of football club Arsenal and rugby team New Zealand All Blacks. |
