Venu advises and leads Ideosync’s C4SC and research initiatives, and provides creative design leadership for all communication and training materials.[1] CareerVenu Arora completed her MA in Mass Communications from the Mass Communications Research Center at Jamia Millia Islamia University in 1996. She also has an Advances in Health Communications certification from the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Venu has worked with UNDP in India as a communication specialist, and with Equal Access International as their regional development communication consultant responsible for establishing their Nepal and Cambodia operations; and has been an international trainer and consultant for radio and media development projects in Bangladesh and Tajikistan. Venu went on to become the co Founder Director of Ideosync Media Combine in 1998. In 2002, she received the Macarthur Fellowship for Leadership Development for her work with adolescent reproductive and sexual health. Venu is a member of the Network of Women in Media in India,[2] and an adjunct faculty member of the Jindal School of Journalism and Communication where she teaches an undergraduate course in Radio Journalism.[3] Films and Media ProductionVenu Arora has directed several films, notably Nirankush (1998) which won the National Award;[4] Growing Up and Time of our Life – a nine part series of films for young people on sexuality;[5] and Rahein – a ten part series on life skills for young people. She has lead the creative design and scripting for several radio programme series including the 52-episode shows Towards the City and We are the Nation broadcast on national channels in India. Publications and Current InterestsVenu Arora has authored Community Radio: Learning the Skills, a detailed capacity building manual for community radio trainers,[6] and Community Radio Basics, a quick guide for community radio stations interested in community radio.[7] She is on the editorial advisory board of Community Communication: A South Asian Journal of Communication for Social Change.[8] Venu's ongoing doctoral thesis at RMIT University is titled Ponderings at the Margins to Re-Imagine the Centre: Exploring Radio to Rethink Communication for Social Change Theory and Practice. Her current work and interests include participatory and community media; international development practice; evaluation of communication for social change and media practice; feminist evaluation and research; gender and media; and adolescent sexual and reproductive health communication.
