Vicensia Shule (born 14th March 1978) is a lecturer at [https://www.udsm.ac.tz University of Dar es Salaam Department] of Creative Arts, teaching theatre, film, media criticism and development communication. She is an active advocate of gender equality and reproductive health..[1] and currently chairs the Tanzania Gender Networking Program (TGNP) since 2015 [2]. Vicensia is a founder of Mkulima Market, Mkulima Market, a digital creative market avenue for agribusinesses in Tanzania and a co-founder of Sanaa Journal of African Arts, Media and cultures [3] .

Education

Vicensia obtained a B.A in Fine and Performing Arts from [https://www.udsm.ac.tz University of Dar es Salaam] in 2002. She then did an M.A. in Performing Arts (Theatre & Film) at the same from 2002-2004 with a dissertation titles Effectiveness of Video Film in Reducing Young Men’s Gender Violence and other HIV Risk Behaviors. Her PhD (Dr. Phil) from Johannes Gutenberg Universität was on theatre studies under a dissertation Beyond Socialism: Tanzania Theatre, Neoliberalism and Foreign Aid Complexity, which she obtained in 2010 [4].

Employment

Vicensia has been a Lecturer at [https://www.udsm.ac.tz University of Dar es Salaam] Department of Creative Arts since 2010 where she teaches theatre, film, media criticism and development communication. Before that, she was an an assistant administrator of Theatre for Children Project (CTP) from 2002-2006 and Assistant Lecturer in theatre and film from 2005 - 2010 at the same University [5][6]

Vicensia also independently produces and directs film and theatre[7][8]

Other Activities

She is an active advocate of gender equality and reproductive health. She engages on different activities on this front. She is the chairperson for Tanzania Gender Networking Program (TGNP) [9] where in the past she has consulted for the organisation on women empowerment, policy analysis, gender based violence (GBV) and community animation. Other gender equality related projects include Tuseme, empowerment of secondary school girls through theatre, and Tuelimishane, a HIV and violence prevention program under Muhimbili University College of Health Sciences and Johns Hopkins University [10].
