}}Vicki Lau (born 6 March 1991) is a visual effects artist, online educator and entrepreneur.[1] Lau's online courses has over 25,000 students in total on Udemy.[2] Lau also worked on notable titles in the motion picture industry including The Walking Dead (TV series), Guardians of the Galaxy (film) and War for the Planet of the Apes.[3]

Early life and education

Lau was born in Singapore and attended CHIJ Katong Convent.[4]

Lau graduated as one of the valedictorians of Singapore Polytechnic in 2011,[5] with a diploma with merit in digital media (specializing in computer-generated imagery) and certificate in applied psychology.[6] She was awarded 3 scholarships to further her education in the United States,[7] including a Singapore Info-communications Media Development Authority (IMDA) scholarship.[8]

Lau was also awarded the Sony Southeast Asia Independent Certificate of Excellence (I.C.E.) award in 2011.[9][10]

Lau obtained a B.F.A. degree in visual effects in 2014, graduating with summa cum laude honors and an outstanding achievement award from the Savannah College of Art and Design.[11]

Career

Lau worked on the visual effects of The Walking Dead (TV series), Guardians of the Galaxy (film), War for the Planet of the Apes and Aquaman (film).[12] Lau's directorial short film debut "The Painter" (2014),[13] was an official selection for the Palm Beach International Film Festival in 2014.[14][15][16]

She also worked in virtual reality for live-action[17] and spoke at events and technical conferences such as TEDxNapaValley[18][19] and the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) Annual Technical Conference[20][21][22] on the subject.

In 2018, Lau led a team of remote collaborators via startup Seyenapse to launch a virtual reality game CREATE,[23] available on the Oculus Rift and Samsung Gear VR stores.[24]

To date, Lau has over 25,000 students on Udemy, on the subject of filmmaking, visual effects and virtual reality.[25]
