It was written by Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Don Felder, and J.D. Souther and appeared on the 1976 album Hotel California as well as numerous compilation albums. The song started out as an instrumental track, that Felder wrote, and brought to the band as an idea for a song. Felder wanted to sing the song, however after many takes rehearsing, and singing the song, the bands manager, Irving Azoff, took Felder out for lunch and had stated that the song will be better with Henley’s vocal instead because Henley was a much better fit for the song. |
