Victor Sanchez Aghahowa (born December 27, 1982) is a Nigerian television

producer, screenwriter and director. He is best known as the showrunner – co-

creator, story consultant, director and executive producer - of the television

telenovela, Jemeji.[1], and showrunner and director of the television dramas Hush [2] and Dowry.

In 2018, Aghahowa announced the upcoming launch of a YouTube channel called BukaFedGeeks, a conduit for content created by his production company TatafoHQ Ltd.

Early Life

Aghahowa was born in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. He exhibited an affinity for storytelling, starting as far back as elementary school. He attended the University of Benin, but dropped out of the Department of Pharmacy after 3 years [3].

While at the university, he wrote and directed a stage play called Heads and Tales for a Christian campus fellowship and credits that as his first taste of watching an audience react to his work.

Afterwards, he wrote his first screenplay and travelled to Lagos State, his first time ever out of Benin, to try and sell it. That screenplay would turn out to be Letters to a Stranger.

Works

Aghahowa started his career as a playwright and director in 2003 while still at the University of Benin.

Also in 2003, he created his first TV show, BACHELORS, on which he worked as Head Writer for a 3 season run. The show was produced by Ruke Amata and R&M Media, and was sponsored to air by Guinness Nigeria PLC.

In 2007, he served as Screenwriter and Assistant Director for the feature film LETTERS TO A STRANGER, a movie sponsored by EcoBank [4]. The film (directed and produced by Fred Amata under the Project Nollywood banner) received commercial and critical acclaim.

In 2008, he served as Associate Producer/Director on THE APPRENTICE AFRICA, the African iteration of the worldwide TV sensation THE APPRENTICE.

He was a writer and director on the Africa Magic soap opera TINSEL [5], and wrote over 200 episodes and directed over 200 episodes as well, covering studio and location-based shoots in Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa before he left the show in 2014.

In the same year, he created, wrote and directed the first season of the hit web series #HOWSHELEFTMYBROTHER under the banner of the content development and creation company, TATAFO HEADQUARTERS where he serves as a Principal Consultant [6].

He was a nominee for The Future Awards 2012 in the Screen Producer of the Year category.

He has served on the writing team for the third and fourth seasons (the Nigerian iteration) of the hit MTV show SHUGA produced through MTV Europe and funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

May 2014 saw the premiere of the first season of DOWRY, a five-part hour length mini-series that he created, produced, directed and oversaw as showrunner for EbonyLife TV. A second season aired in 2015.

In 2015 he also served as a writer and director on Africa Magic’s hit telenovela HOTEL MAJESTIC for the entirety of its 260-episode run.

In 2016, he served as Series Director, Script and Story Consultant and showrunner for Africa Magic’s even bigger hit telenovela HUSH.

In the same year, he also created JAMESTOWN, a four part miniseries shot in Nigeria and Ghana on which he served as writer, director and showrunner [7].

In 2017, RETREAT aired on Africa Magic, a 10 episode miniseries he co-created, directed, produced and was showrunner on [8].

He also wrote, directed and produced the made for TV movie BABYSITTING EJIRO that aired on Africa Magic [9].

He was Executive Producer, Series Director and showrunner for JEMEJI, a 260-episode telenovela set in Badagry, also for Africa Magic [10].

In 2018, he served as Head Writer and Series Director for E.V.E a legal one-hour drama for Africa Magic [11].

He is passionate about highlighting the cultural diversity of Nigeria and putting a spotlight on smaller cultures/tribes that have not gotten a spotlight put on the beauty of their non mainstream traditions and culture – till now.

He also hosts a quarterly training session for upcoming screenwriters/showrunners called BAKING BREAD [12]
