He has eight brothers and four sisters, including John Matsudaira.[5] He graduated from the University of Washington in 1968[6] and served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.[7][8] Interned at Minidoka during World War II, Matsudaira wrote an article about the internment of Japanese Americans for The Los Angeles Times in 1972.[9] He began his directing career in Hollywood and taught film studies at Seattle Central Community College.[10] He was an English language editor for the North American Post in 2005.[11] Matsudaira contributed between $50 to $99 to relief efforts conducted after the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami.[12] Selected filmographyFilms
