Vita Pukštaitė Bružė (b. on 30 September 1978 in Kėdainiai) is a Lithuanian artist, a representative of art jewellery.

Biography

In the period from 1996 to 1999 Vita Pukštaitė Bružė studied at Telšiai College of Applied Arts majoring in metal plastic[1]. From 1999 to 2003 Vita continued her studies of metal art at the faculty of Applied Arts of Vilnius Academy of Arts in Telšiai. Member of the Lithuanian Artists’ Association since 2010.

Vita Pukštaitė Bružė has been participating in national and international competitions since 1999. The artist has organized three solo exhibitions and participated in 80 group shows, has received six awards at exhibitions in Lithuania and overseas. Vita has been included in the lists of artists representing Lithuania at state funded exhibitions.[2]

Style and works

V. Pukštaitė Bružė is a representative of art jewellery [3]. V. Pukštaitė Bružė’s style is characterized by subtlety, poetry, spontaneity, [4] a sense of colour, sensitivity to detail, and technical skill.

The prevailing materials include silver, enamel, copper, amber, opal, and gold. The author is using enamel to pour it over silver or gold surfaces. The artist expresses the emotional content through a linear drawing, character stokes, and silhouettes.[5][6][7]

The artist creates lockets, brooches, rings, earrings, necklaces, plaques, and pockets.

The author and her creations express irony towards beauty stereotypes, luxury, hierarchy, clichés, and egocentricity. A few examples: necklaces – Cone, The Great Stroll, Place under the Sun, Sunshine, Berries on a Bent Grass; brooches – Brownray Knapweed, Quacking Grass, Little Thistle; plaques – A Pause, Illumination, A Hedgehog on the Linden Alley, Non-sense; pockets – Herbalist’s, Grey Eminence’s, Soap Bubble Blower’s.

V. Pukštaitė Bružė is characterized by her ability to render sensitivity, personalize, and emphasize vibrations of various aspects, animals[8], plants[9], that quiver our emotions and breathe life into surrounding objects that normally are considered a mere accompaniment in our world of overestimated artefacts. V. Pukštaitė Bružė transforms weeds, animal feeds, untamed flora and fauna into decorations or objects of art – bent grass, burdocks, lichen, thistles, quacking grass, nettles, and goosefoots. "Who has decided that a rose is beautiful and a nettle is not worthy of attention", asks the author. "Who gave certain stones sophisticated names and decided that they are worth huge sums of money leaving others to lie on seashores and roadsides?" [10]

The most recent creations of the artist manifest a shift towards multipolarity, complexity, thought texture, and a combination of materials with different energetic properties in order to create a visual and physical vibration of colours and textures. Hues and interchanging textures express tangible visual harmony. "This most cherished impression of the evaporation of the artist’s effort should be emphasized. If in a piece of art all details as if effortlessly fall into place, it means that the author has achieved a high level of excellence and artistry", explains Pille Veljataga, a researcher of the Lithuanian Culture Research Institute, when speaking about V. Pukštaitė Bružė’s work.[11]
