The Voltia electric van

History

Voltia is an electric mobility company founded in Slovakia. It was founded in 2011 as GreenWay Operator, and was the first electric mobility company in Slovakia. In these early years of electric mobility there were not many available EVs on the road so the business model then was to convert diesel vans to electric and lease them to companies which paid for the kilometers traveled. Additionally, GWO built a series of battery swap stations.

In 2015, GreenWay Operator spun into two companies. One is [https://www.voltia.com/ Voltia], which continues to focus on bringing electric vans to market and helping companies switch their commercial vehicle fleets to electric. The 2nd company is [https://greenway.sk/en/ GreenWay Infrastructure], an electric vehicle charging infrastructure operator in Central/Eastern Europe.

First Generation - Converted Citroen Jumpers

The early van conversions were of Citroen Jumpers. This involved converting an original combustion engine vehicle into electric by adding in a battery pack and battery engine and drivetrain

2nd Generation - converted Nissan eNV200's[1]

In October 2016, Voltia launched its current van, then under the name "Maxi". It is a conversion of the Nissan eNV200 all-electric van. The Voltia conversion increases the cargo capacity of the eNV200. It comes in 2 sizes - 6m3 or 8m3. Voltia vans are currently in operation in 10 European countries from the[2] to Germany [3] to Slovakia [4]

This is significant because much is made about the need to reduce emissions from the logistics and delivery segments in order to meet EU and Paris Agreement climate targets. The delivery business is the segment of the automotive market where emissions are growing, but there are currently few electric models available on the market.

Until major vehicle producers address this market it will be primarily smaller companies with more niche products that dominate the space.
