The service is marketed as one that protects user's privacy and enhances security by encrypting the Internet traffic and by masking the user's IP address behind one of VPNArea's no-logs VPN servers situated in 70 countries.

In 2018, Bitcoin.com listed VPNArea on the top spot in their "Best Crypto-Friendly VPN services" article section.[2]

Features

VPNArea has published apps for Windows, Mac, iOS[2], Android [3], Linux.[4] VPNArea's Android App has over 10 000 installs on Play Store [3]. The apps use a 4096-bit CA, AES-256-CBC encryption and Perfect Forward Secrecy with RSA + DH-4096 to protect user's VPN traffic.[5][6] Available VPN protocols include OpenVPN, IKEv2.

Obfuscation and Multi-Hop (double) VPN are also among its list of features.[7]

Reception

TorrentFreak has featured and interviewed VPNArea in its 2018 and 2017 VPN comparison lists and as early as 2016.[8][9][6]

In 2018, Bitcoin.com listed VPNArea on the top spot in their "Best Crypto-Friendly VPN services" article section.[10]

PCMag editor Max Eddy conducted a product review of VPNArea in 2017 and stated that "VPNArea snagged the best upload score by reducing upload speeds by only 3.2 percent".[11]TechRadar has also conducted a product review of VPNArea in 2017, concluding that "The Windows client needs work, but overall VPNArea is a feature-packed service for a fair price.", referencing version 1.0 of the Windows App by VPNArea, a version 2.0 has since been released [12]

In his print book series "Practical Paranoia", the author Mark Mintz has included a chapter about setting up VPNArea to enhance Mac, Windows and Android user's security and privacy online.[13]

VPNArea remains in the "Best VPN Services" list of RestorePrivacy.com, a privacy focused web site whose in-depth investigative journalistic work has often been quoted and echoed in articles by major tech media such as Engadget, PCWorld and MakeUseOf.[14]

AskMen featured VPNArea in its "Best VPNs for Every Situation" list in 2017.[15]

PrivacyTools.io, an open-source privacy recommendation web site has also listed VPNArea in their recommended privacy tools.[16]

VPNArea is or has been featured in "Best VPN" articles by "PC World (Germany)", BestVPN.com, Saporedicina.com, SearchEncrypt and others.[17] [18][19][20][21][22]

Other Work

In 2018 VPNArea launched [https://IPLeak.org IPLeak.org], a free web site that visitors can use to test their VPN provider's connection for IP and DNS leak exposure and to see the geographical location information associated with their IP address.[23]
