Early Life

Wayne Reeve was born in Victoria B.C. Canada on May 24, 1958 to Bernice and Arthur Reeve. His father was often not around during his childhood leaving his mother to take care of him and his three sisters; Michelle, Karen, and Teresa. When he was 8 his mother registered him for lacrosse as many of his friends were already playing. His team won the 1966 Tyke provincial lacrosse championship. He was instantly in love with the sport. He often would play lacrosse in his mother’s drive way. His grandfather Steve Johnson (Stavros Andreanas) a Greek immigrant owned a restaurant in Sydney British Columbia just outside of Victoria. Wayne often worked in his grandfather’s restaurant. Wayne Reeve attended Hampton Elementary, Colquitz Junior High, and Spectrum Community School. He met his wife April Reeve (formerly April Steen) in his senior year while she was a year younger.

Lacrosse Career

Wayne was drafted to the Esquimalt Legion out of Intermediate A. Wayne played Junior B in his rookie season in junior. He was the league’s leading scorer with ____ points. In his second year of junior he made Junior A Victoria McDonald’s Bread. The team placed third out of five teams in the pacific division. Wayne was the leading scorer on the team and 9th in the league with 89 points. After the Nanaimo Timberman Senior A team folded in 1980, Wayne and many of his team mates dropped down to the Senior B team Nanaimo City.

Nanaimo Timbermen

The Nanaimo Timbermen are a Senior A lacrosse team founded in 1975. The team folded in 1981 and was defunct until 2005. They play in the WLA (Western Lacrosse Association).

Post Lacrosse Career

Wayne retired from lacrosse in 1982 after the birth of his second child and first daughter Jennifer Reeve. When he retired he went to work for 20 years at Chemainus towing. He worked long hard shifts, often staying on the tugboats for 2 weeks of every month. He was the captain of the ship for ______. Eventually Wayne returned to school to get a degree in Social Work at V.I.U. (Vancouver Island University) in Nanaimo. Him and his wife April Reeve moved back to their hometown of Victoria in 2006 to work for V.N.F.C. (Victoria Native Friendship Centre). After working at V.N.F.C. for about 3 years they were offered a job as foster parents under V.N.F.C. which they took. They worked as foster parents under V.N.F.C. for 4 years at “Cedar House”. In 2013 they moved out of town to Langford B.C. just outside of Victoria under a new contract with S.B.C. (Surrounded By Cedars) Where they remain working today.


Family

In 1980 April Reeve gave birth to their first child Kyle Reeve, followed by Jennifer in 1982 and Stephanie in 1985. Kyle Reeve joined baseball while Wayne was away on a tugboat. Kyle was a very talented, promising young baseball player, but ultimately had to quit due to a back injury he sustained at 14. Jennifer and Stephanie were very into art and music during their childhood. In 2004 Wayne and April’s daughter Jennifer gave birth to their first grandchild Ty Reeve. Followed by Marshall Strutton 2 months later. In 2009 Kyle had his first child Dale Reeve with his now ex-girlfriend Lizanne. In December 2013 Stephanie and her husband John Strutton had their second child Olivia Strutton. The next month January 2014 Kyle and his current girlfriend Desiree Holmes had their first child Kylea Reeve. Ty Reeve and Marshall Strutton both started playing lacrosse at 8 and were instantly hooked the same way Wayne was at that age. Ty and Marshall played for V.E.L.A. (Victoria Esquimalt Lacrosse Association) until 2017 when they moved to Langford to play higher level lacrosse for the JDF Whalers. Ty has played on other teams including Vancouver Jr. Stealth and Team B.C. Kyle’s son Dale currently plays lacrosse in novice for the Cowichan Valley Thunder, while Oliva (Stephanie’s Daughter) plays mini tyke in JDF.
