Empire State Weeklies, Inc was established in 1945 as a parent company for numerous weekly newspapers in Western New York and the Finger Lakes region. When David Young, the current owner, started working with the company in 1967, Empire produced a total of nine weekly newspapers. As the years unfolded, the company evolved into printing and publishing and narrowed down to producing one news publication, the Webster Herald.

Since it was established in 1899, the Webster Herald has provided weekly, local news coverage to the Webster community. As the official newspaper of the Town and Village of Webster and Webster Central School District, this endearing publication covers the latest goings on within Webster's local government, student and faculty achievements, wedding announcements, local business successes, community events, and much more. All of the content is localized. Webster news, Webster schools, Webster businesses, Webster life.

On the printing side, Empire produces products through one of two divisions. One division is the Coldset Web Press, which is used to print newspapers and books for outside clients. The other division is commercial offset printing, which is where Empire specializes in publication-oriented materials and direct mail.

Empire offers customers full service, from concept and design to printing, bindery services, and mailing. In the last few years, we've added digital capabilities. Whatever the product or the need, we do our best to find cost-efficient ways to achieve the results our customers want.

Everything Empire does is customized for the individual customer. Many of our customers have been with us for 30 or 40 years; they've become part of the Empire family. The personalized and quality experience you get at Empire State Weeklies simply can't be found anywhere else.

History of the Village of Webster: https://www.ci.webster.ny.us/146/History

Establishment

On July 25, 1837, Daniel Webster spoke to a large gathering of Whigs on the Rochester courthouse steps concerning currency regulation and the state of the economy. The Rochester Democrat editorialized that he was "the cleverest fellow in the world for embellishing a story." The Whig farmers from North Penfield, who were part of Daniel Webster's audience that day, were so impressed by his eloquence that, when they petitioned the state legislature for separate town status from Penfield, they chose to name it in his honor.

On February 6, 1840, Governor William Seward announced the birth of Webster, New York. Originally part of North Penfield, land was split off to create the new town. Residents numbering 2,235 inhabited the new Webster. The first town meeting was held at John Lett's tavern, south of the present village. Attendees discussed town needs and elected officials necessary to meet those needs.

Village Establishment

In the early 1900s, citizens feeling the need for better fire protection, sanitation facilities, lighting, water, and other improvements proposed that a separate village be incorporated within the town. On March 27, 1905, a referendum was approved by a 27-vote margin, resulting in the incorporation of the Village of Webster.
