Westworld, also subtitled Delos Park Training Simulation and alternatively titled Westworld Mobile, is a mobile game based on the television series of the same name developed by Behaviour Interactive and published by WB Games. It entered public Beta on March 7, 2018, and was officially launched on June 21, 2018. The game places the player in control of a simulation of the Westworld park.

Gameplay

Westworld is a locked perspective 3D simulation game. Players control Hosts, most of which have direct counterparts on the Westworld TV series. These Hosts are matched against Guests, which represent human visitors to the park, to see if the Host can meet the desires of the Guest in an interaction. If the Host succeeds the player is rewarded with various game currencies.

As the player increases in game level they can upgrade their control room, build new Delos rooms, open new areas in the game, and construct additional buildings in those areas. The main focus of the game is collecting the various Hosts, which are earned through various Host Codes. These are exchanged for a random Host. Once this is done the player can level the Host up through various means.

Westworld Mobile is a Free to Play game where the player is able to purchase Gems (see Currencies, next section). Hosts codes purchased through Gems give a random Host code. As Gems are also earned by in-game play, all Hosts and activities in the game are available to Free players (albeit at a slower pace).

There is a regular weekly leaderboard tournament (ie, player reward is based on competition with other players). Technically this makes the game multi-player but there is no direct play with/against other players aside from leaderboards.

Currencies

  • Gems are earned in-game over time from multiple sources. They are also able to be purchased by the player for real world currency. They can be used to:
    • Speed up the time needed to complete any of the timed in-game actions
  • Coins are earned in-game by performing Interactions, with a small amount gained by other other in-game mechanics
    • Can be purchased with Gems
    • Are used for creating/upgrading in-game items (see Items, next section)

Items

  • Host Codes are exchanged by the player for a random Host. There are multiple types of Host Codes
    • Basic (and Social) codes give common lower level hosts and come from various in-game activities
    • Premium codes give higher level hosts. These are primarily purchased with Gems but can rarely come from in-game activity.
  • Host Code Fragments are fragments for specific Hosts. The higher the level of the Host the more fragments you need. These fragments come from the in-game leaderboard events as well as from daily rewards.
  • Reveries are items that come from in-game activity and are used to improve the player's Hosts. These come in multiple rarities with more rare versions providing better improvement.
  • Props are crafted by Materials which come from in-game activity, and are also used to improve Hosts.

All game play requires an active connection to the WB game servers. This forms the basis for the game's anti-cheat protection but also means it is not possible to play while the player is offline.

When the lawsuit (see next section) was filed by Bethesda, many online sources assumed that Westworld Mobile was a direct clone of Fallout Shelter. However the lawsuit is directly challenging the use of source code. While visually similar at first glance, the 2 games are significantly different in how player activity and networking requirements are structured.

Lawsuit by Bethesda Softworks

On the day of public release of the game Bethesda Softworks, LLC filed suit[1] against Behaviour Interactive, Inc. and Warner Bros. Entertainment, Inc alleging copyright infringement. The suit claims that Westworld Mobile shared source code with the Bethesda game Fallout Shelter, which was developed by Behaviour Interactive for Bethesda.
