The earliest mention of this town is in a church charter dating from 1131 CE, making it one of the oldest towns in the east Czech region of Moravia. Újezd has seen considerable conflict in its history; the start of the Battle of Austerlitz (Battle of the Three Emperors) on 2 December 1805 was signaled by cannon fire from the Chapel of St. Anthony of Padua.
