In the traditional economy, the gross domestic product (GDP) is used to compare living standards in countries. The index of happiness is designed to find out the real welfare of nations. Formula Guided by the premise that most people want to live a long and healthy life, and the state must maximize the well-being of its citizens without harming the environment, the author of the index, Nick Marx, offers an alternative index of socio-economic development. The general formula for HPI has the form: HPI = Expected Life Expectancy x Goodwill Inequality of Results / Ecological Footprint To determine the welfare of citizens, they use the data from sociological surveys at the Gallup Institute and the World Values Survey. The sociological survey is based on the question: "What is your level of well-being on a ten-point scale?" And is conducted among 1,000 respondents aged 15 years in each of more than 150 countries. The World Happinness Report, 2018, contains the world ranking of the world at the level of happiness of their population. The report compares 156 countries in six indicators: income, life expectancy, social support, freedom, attitude towards corruption and generosity.
