Yogendra Pathak Viyogi (born October 1947) is an Indian scientist who works in experimental high energy nuclear and particle physics. CareerY. P. Viyogi received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Bihar University, Muzaffarpur. He joined the Training School Program of the Bhabha Atomic Research Center in 1971. He completed his PhD in Physics in 1984 at the Variable Energy Cyclotron Center in Kolkata and then spent two years as a post-doctoral fellow at GANIL in France. He remained in VECC until June 2006 when he was appointed as the Director of the Instiute of Physics in Bhubaneswar for a period of three years. In 2009 he returned to VECC where he remained until his retirement in 2012. ResearchIn LBL he was involves in a study of projectile fragmentation in the collision of heavy nuclei at intermediate energies, which found exotic nuclei far from the region of beta-stability. Studies such as this opened up the field of radioactive ion beams. From the late 1980s he was involved in the study of the quark gluon plasma, first at CERN and then in BNL. He is most well-known for leading a consortium of Indian universities and research institutes which built photon multiplicity detector modules for heavy-ion experiments. RecognitionHe was elected a Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy in 2009. References1. ^http://insaindia.res.in/detail/P09-1501 Brief biography by INSA[1] |
