}}

Your Favorite Martian was an American virtual band created by Ray William Johnson and funded by Maker Studios in 2010. At the peak of their popularity in 2011 to 2012, they were the number 1 music channel on YouTube, and sold over a million songs on iTunes. Their songs consisted of comedy rap blended with rock music. The fictional band had four cartoon characters as members: Puff-Puff as the lead vocalist (he was voiced by Johnson), Benatar as the guitarist and co-vocalist (he was voiced by Jesse Cale), Deejay as the turntablist, and Axel as the drummer.

History

The band was formed in 2010 by Ray William Johnson and Maker Studios, and released their first song "My Balls" on iTunes on December 24, 2010[1]. A music video was later uploaded onto YouTube on January 26, 2011. The release of the My Balls music video on YouTube was a success, and as of September 2018, has over 30 million views. They started releasing more songs onto YouTube throughout 2011 to 2012, one of their more popular ones being "Tig Ol' Bitties".

Covers and album announcement

In 2012, the YFM YouTube channel started releasing covers of other songs such as Eminem's Love The Way You Lie and Biz Markie's Just A Friend. They then announced that they were working on their debut studio album, set for a winter 2012 release.

Dispute with Maker Studios and breakup

During development for the YFM album, Ray William Johnson was having financial disputes with Maker Studios, the studio funding the album's development. Maker demanded a higher share of Johnson's earnings and more control over YFM. Johnson refused to follow Maker's demands, and Maker cut off funding for the band, and the album, officially ending YFM, and putting the album in permanent development hell.

Legacy

Your Favorite Martian left behind a legacy in the history of YouTube, with the channel containing the music videos still gaining views to this day.
