Youth for Democracy (YFD) is an independent NGO based in Mumbai, India. YFD aims to sensitize and engage the youth to bridge the socioeconomic gaps in the society. YFD works through engaging its volunteers in activities that range from direct service at ground level, advocating reforms for socioeconomic alleviation to mobilizing development opportunities for the community. Mission StatementSensitizing and engaging the youth for bridging the socioeconomic gaps in our society through knowledge, education, entrepreneurship, and service.[1] Basic PrinciplesThe organization aims to serve through three distinct areas of work. Knowledge:Aims to reform the education sector to secure every child’s right to development, protection from exploitation, and participation. Entrepreneurship:Aims to encourage the entrepreneurship spirit in the society to secure every individual’s right to opportunity and employment. Service:Aims to help certain deprived sections of the society that have suffered due to unjust treatment towards them. by working on the ground through donating human effort and empathy.[1] HistoryEstablished in 2015, YFD stared as a small social movement by few like-minded individuals who had the urge to work to make a difference to the world. With nothing but the due sense of responsibility in their minds, these youngsters began what has today become an organization with over 200 contributors through its activities. YFD not only believes in working on the ground but also considers refining and channelizing the youth towards serving the society as its premier objective. YFD has went on become a registered organization in 2018, under Societies Registration Act, 1860. Financial InformationThe primary source of revenue for the organization is through donations by individuals and other organizations. ActivitiesYouth MeetYouth meet is an annual meet. It aims to channel the energy, wisdom and the capacity of the youth. Thus, inspiring the youth to participate in social activities and make them realize their hidden potential to make a difference to the society. It facilitates networking of the youth and social empowerment. Project KayapalatKayapalat is the spot beautification drive by the organization. It not only aims to achieve the beautification of a corner in the neighborhood but build a sense and understanding of cleanliness among the masses. Setting right standards about cleanliness, developing the right tolerance of the society towards filth and broadcasting this to the masses is most important objective of Project Kayapalat. MI Udyami!Mi Udyami! is an initiative focused towards igniting the entrepreneurial spirit of the society, especially the women. Women are well equipped to contribute to the family income. But the social structure of the Indian society poses many challenges for women to work. Hence the prime focus of this initiative are women. The focus of the program is to make people aware of the how businesses are born, how they work, what are the various factors to be taken into consideration, what benefits and perks they are entitled to as entrepreneurs and so on... Swadeshi e-MandaiSwadeshi e-Mandai is an online store. It explores the potential of local manufacturing towards strengthening the internal ecosystem and empowering domestic entrepreneurs towards the same. Swadeshi e-Mandai promotes the trend of local buying among customers and creating self-developing environment to promote entrepreneurial spirit that will help in the collective development of the country.[2][3] Samyak ProgressSamyak Progress aims to skill the youth as one of the solutions to bridge the gaps set by the Indian education system through conducting workshops on skill development for school children. The focus of the initiative are the school dropouts and those wish to discontinue the formal education. Samyak Progress tries to show them a path to achieve their dreams. Thus helping the equitable growth in the society. Arth’Sakshar, Me!Arth’Sakshar, Me! is a Financial literacy drive for women, especially from the bottom of the pyramid. It focuses on some of the following things:
Project VisitProject visit is an annual tour to an institution, an initiative or a project which has helped solve some or the other problems faced by the society. The objective is to understand what were problems faced by the people and how was the solution worked out, what solution is being implemented, how is it being done and what are the results. The pure purpose of the activity is to derive inspiration. Project BeejankurBeejankur is a tree plantation drive. The volunteers plant a seed at their place, nurture it till it becomes mature enough to sustain itself in the wild. They then plant these home-grown plants as an afforestation initiative. Kandil Ki PathshalaIt’s a kandil (Lantern) making workshop conducted just before Diwali as an initiative to conserve traditional art of making kandil. The participants of the workshop are school students. Under the guidance of the volunteers, each school student makes his own kandil. Thus, the art is transferred to the next generation.[3] Diwali with SahodarasThe aim of this activity is social inclusion of the underprivileged section of the society. Volunteers visit a vasti (settlement) on the Diwali morning to meet the children there. It is a common practice in Diwali to exchange faral (Diwali snacks) with family and friends as a part of the celebration. The volunteers share their thoughts and distribute faral (Diwali snacks) with these kids thus involving them in the celebration.[3] Arth’AwareThis was a financial literacy session for the YFD volunteers. The aim of the session was to introduce the concepts of money and finance and develop an inquisitiveness for the subject. YFD plans to spread financial literacy to the poorest poor. Arth'Aware was a step towards making a team of volunteers ready for the spreading financial literacy to the rest of the society. Project JalasandhiIt is a water conservation initiative. The initiative has changed its form over the years. From door to door campaign to contributing to river embankment work in a small village near Kasara, Maharashtra.
