Zane Campbell (born about 1957 ) is a country musician and artist. He lives in [Elkton, Maryland].[1].

Family

He grew up in Kentucky and northeasterm Maryland and comes from a musical family. His grandfather was [Arthur Campbell], his great-uncle was [Guy Brooks]. He is the nephew of the well-known folk musicians [Ola Belle Reed] (1916-2002) and [Alex Reed][2], who sang in various bands, including their own The New River Boys and Girls. Ola Belle Reed's 1970 composition "High on a Mountain"[3] continues to be covered by country musicians.

Zane Campbell has a son named Miles[4].

His older brother is the musician and song-writer Hugh Campbell[5], whose work "Shape of a Tear" as nominated for song of the year in 2003 by the International Bluegrass Music Association[6]. The singer and song-writer Dave Reed, son of Ola Belle Campbell Reed, is his cousin.

His sister, Alta Campbell, keeps track of family history and family news on a website[7]

In 2011 he participated in an hour-long radio interview conducted in Elkton about his aunt Ola Belle Reed and sang songs with his brother, Hugh, and cousin Dave Reed[8]. In 2015 the Library of Congress hosted a concert, "High on a Mountain" and symposium about Ola Belle Reed[9][10], but Zane did not participate.

Education

He left University of Maryland before completing his studies and moved to New York City to become part of the music scene in the mid-1970s, where he played with various bands and also wrote several reviews for the weekly [New York Press], such as about the bluegrass musician [Del McCoury][11]

Influences

As a songwriter, he claims to draw inspiration from classic works such as [William Blake] and [James Joyce]. While living in New York City in the 1980-1990s he was acquainted with the punk musician [Tommy Ramone], who shared Campbell's admiration of Ola Bell Reed's musical style. Ramone later played and recorded progressive bluegrass music in a duo called [Uncle Monk][12]. In the 1990s Campbell was a regular at the "Fort", an [anti-folk] club in the [East Village], Manhattan.

Campbell's song "Post Mortem Bar" was included on the soundtrack of the film [Longtime Companion] in 1989[13].
