The station Zaragoza-Portillo is a station near the Aljafería Castle in Zaragoza. It serves the Cercanías Line C1 from Casetas to miraflores, as well as a few mid distance lines, like Madrid-Barcelona and Valencia-Zaragoza

History

The station was opened in the 25 May 1863 by MZA, the former Spanish railway company. The construction of the Almozara bridge made possible connections with the north side of the river Ebro and the opening of the North Station in Zaragoza made possible connections with Barcelona, completing the Madrid-Barcelona line.

In 1896 the new terminal, with a length of 144 meters was inaugurated it was divided in a main hall and two smaller wings.

In 1967, the smaller stations of Cariñena, Utrillas and Caminreal closed, making it the main station. In 1973, Renfe proceded to make it bigger and changing its appearance. They also named it Zaragoza-Portillo, being this the actual name. In 2003 the Zaragoza-Delicias station was built, making this station unused.

In 2008 a new, smaller, underground terminal was built, being this the terminal operating .

Overview

This train station is very basic. It doesn’t requiere people, because the tickets are bought in machines, and passengers have to go through ticket barriers.

Outside it has a Bizi stand. It is Zaragoza’s public bicycle system.

There are no Bus stations nor tram stations there.

The closest bus stop is in Av. Anselmo Clavé 21, it’s 280m away.

The closest tram stop is Fernando el Católico-Goya 1.2km away.

Nearby there’s also the Caixa Forum museum and the Aljafería palace.
