释义 |
Dreva on Tweed (or simply Dreva) is a hamlet in the Scottish Borders. It is noted for the historical presence of a Peel tower. EtymologyThe name is first attested quite late, in 1649, as Draway. This seems to be a Cumbric name, perhaps cognate with Welsh (y) + tref + ma 'the place of the (fortified) farmstead'.[1] References1. ^Bethany Fox, 'The P-Celtic Place-Names of North-East England and South-East Scotland', The Heroic Age, 10 (2007), http://www.heroicage.org/issues/10/fox.html (appendix at http://www.heroicage.org/issues/10/fox-appendix.html). {{coord|55|36|33|N|3|22|00|W|type:city_region:GB|display=title}}{{Borders-geo-stub}} 1 : Villages in the Scottish Borders |
