Ramkrishnan, the Founder Head of the Department of Biochemistry, established an interdisciplinary academic program. [6] The centre was established with the financial support of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India and the Government of Gujarat. CoursesIntegrated MSc (Cell and Molecular Biology)The institute offers a 5-year Integrated M.Sc. program in Cell and Molecular Biology. The course offers 30 seats each year, which are filled through a common entrance exam.[7] PhD ProgrammeRecently, the institute has also initiated a PhD programme for graduates looking to work in the department's labs. ResearchBSS LabBSS Lab at VSICMB is led by Dr. BS Sahu. The lab aims to understand the biogenesis of Dense Core Vesicles (DCVs), the role of DCV associated proteins, and protein products in regulating metabolic/physiological functions.[8] The lab is funded by International Brain Research Organization, Department of Biotechnology, and the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda.
