|espn=4040616 }} Dwayne Haskins Jr. (born May 3, 1997) is an American football quarterback for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Early yearsHaskins grew up in Highland Park, New Jersey and moved to Maryland when he was in ninth grade.[1][2] He attended the Bullis School in Potomac, Maryland. During his career, he passed for 5,308 yards and 54 touchdowns.[3] He originally committed to the University of Maryland to play college football but changed to Ohio State.[4][5] College careerHaskins redshirted his first year at Ohio State in 2016. In 2017, he was the backup to J.T. Barrett.[6][7] He finished the season completing 40 of 57 passes for 565 yards and four touchdowns.[8] Entering 2018, Haskins was considered the favorite to replace the departing Barrett as the team's starting quarterback after Joe Burrow transferred.[9][10] Haskins went on to have a record-setting campaign in his Sophomore season. He claimed the single season passing and touchdown records for Ohio State and the Big Ten by eclipsing the 4,000-passing yards mark and throwing more than 40 touchdowns. Additionally, he claimed school records in total offense in a season (4,100+ yards), total offensive yards in a game (477) and total passing yards in a game (470). In all 12 of his 2018 regular season games, he threw for more than 225 passing yards, including eight games of more than 300 yards and four games of more than 400. He threw for 499 yards and 5 touchdowns in a 45-24 win over Northwestern in the 2018 Big Ten championship at Lucas Oil Stadium. His 2018 performance earned him six Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week awards, First team All–Big Ten honors, the Griese–Brees Quarterback of the Year award, Graham–George Offensive Player of the Year. He was also named as a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award and was one of three finalists for the Heisman Trophy. He is one of 6 players to achieve 50 passing touchdowns in one season.
