Butowsky was purportedly banned from the network's building in August of 2017 after he gained notoriety over his role in a controversial story published and subsequently retracted by foxnews.com concerning the murder of Seth Rich[2][2][3] and his alleged ties to WikiLeaks.[4] Early life and educationButowsky was born in 1962 and raised in Laurel, Maryland and Chappaqua, New York. His father was David Butowsky, chief enforcement officer for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.[5] In the early 1980s, he attended the University of Texas.[6] Early versions of his firm's website and his Bloomberg profile claim he received a BA in marketing,[7][9] but the university has stated that while he attended the school from 1982-1985, they cannot find a record that he graduated. [8]CareerButowsky started his financial career with Morgan Stanley, working there for 18 years, from 1987 to 2002. At Morgan Stanley, he ran the high-net-worth group in the Southwest and became senior vice president in private wealth management. He founded the private wealth management firm Chapwood Investments in 2005.[9] He is currently a managing partner in Chapwood Capital Investment Management[10] and created the Chapwood Index, which intends to be a true cost of living increase index. Butowsky's investment house conducted a report on bankruptcy among professional athletes in 2010. By 2013, he was managing investments for a hundred professional athletes.[11] Butowsky also provided investment advice for actor Columbus Short.[12] Butowsky started the celebrity and athlete investor group Clubhouse Investment Club with professional baseball player Torii Hunter.[13] Butowsky was also a managing director at Bear Stearns.[10] Butowsky founded the 1940 Act fund Paramount Access Advisors for hedge funds in 2012.[9] In 2015, Butowsky provided pro bono financial advice for an Indiana pizzeria that received $842,000 in crowdfunded donations after refusing to cater a same-sex wedding.[14] A staunch Donald Trump supporter,[15] Butowsky also writes articles for Breitbart News, TheBlaze,[16] and also contributed to ESPN films and documentaries.[17] Butowsky is at the center of a controversy surrounding alleged ties between Seth Rich and Julian Assange. Butowsky contends that shortly after Rich's death in July 2016, Butowsky was contacted by an old friend (who also is a nationally known media personality) who said that Julian Assange had a message for the parents of Seth Rich. Butowsky stated that he was asked to tell Seth's parents that Seth had played a role providing the DNC emails to Assange. According to Butowsky, he waited a couple of months before contacting the Rich family. Butowsky initially represented to various media that when he first talked to the family, the parents said: “You know what, we don’t believe you.. "[18][19] The following year, Butowsky's description of the initial conversation with the family changed; in a videotaped interview conducted by the Gateway Pundit, Butowsky claimed the parents said: "We already know that, we want to know who killed our son." Butowsky provided no reasons for his shifting explanations in his Gatway Pundit interview.[20] Butowsky subsequently decided to take unilateral action and hired private investigator Rod Wheeler to investigate the murder of Seth Rich in February 2017. Wheeler later sued Fox News and alleged in the suit that Butowsky and Fox News fabricated the story of the deceased DNC employee to deflect public attention from the possible Russian government's involvement in the DNC hack.[6][21] However, Wheeler dropped the suit. A suit brought by the parents of Seth Rich against Fox and Butowsky also was dismissed.[22] Personal lifeButowsky lives in Plano, Texas, with his wife and two children.[23] References1. ^https://brokercheck.finra.org/individual/summary/1660615 2. ^{{cite news|last1=Bump|first1=Philip|title=A timeline of the explosive lawsuit alleging a White House link in the Seth Rich conspiracy|url=https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/politics/wp/2017/08/01/a-timeline-of-the-explosive-lawsuit-alleging-a-white-house-link-in-the-seth-rich-conspiracy/|accessdate=1 August 2017|publisher=Washington Post}} 3. ^{{cite news|last1=Bernstein|first1=Joseph|title=The Man Behind The Seth Rich Private Investigation Has A White House Connection|url=https://www.buzzfeed.com/josephbernstein/the-man-behind-the-seth-rich-private-investigation-has-a|accessdate=1 August 2017|publisher=BuzzFeed News|date=24 May 2017}} 4. ^{{Cite web|url=https://twitter.com/davidfolkenflik/status/893583382977839104|title=A small nugget: A Fox News source with direct knowledge of internal decisions said Ed Butowsky is no longer allowed "inside the building."|last=Folkenflik|first=David|date=2017-08-04|website=@davidfolkenflik|language=en|access-date=2019-04-05}} 5. ^{{cite news|last1=Chiaramonte|first1=Perry|title=Cuba thaw could bring answers to mystery of fugitive financier|url=http://www.foxnews.com/us/2015/08/17/cuba-thaw-could-bring-answers-to-mystery-fugitive-financier.html|work=Fox News|date=August 17, 2015}} 6. ^1 2 {{cite web|last1=Folkenflik|first1=David|title=Behind Fox News' Baseless Seth Rich Story: The Untold Tale|url=https://www.npr.org/2017/08/01/540783715/lawsuit-alleges-fox-news-and-trump-supporter-created-fake-news-story|work=NPR|date=August 1, 2017}} 7. ^https://web.archive.org/web/20081005130236/http://www.chapwoodinvestments.com/AboutUs/EdButowsky/EdButowsky.html 8. ^https://www.npr.org/2017/08/16/543830392/the-role-of-ed-butowsky-in-advancing-retracted-seth-rich-story 9. ^1 {{cite news|first=Mary |last=Campbell|title=Q&A: Ed Butowsky Gears Up To Launch Fund Of Hedge Funds |url=http://www.finalternatives.com/node/20308|work=FINalternatives|date=April 30, 2012|language=en}} 10. ^1 2 {{cite news|title=Ed Butowsky : Executive Profile & Biography|url=https://www.bloomberg.com/research/stocks/private/person.asp?personId=24420976&privcapId=112720934|accessdate=August 1, 2017|work=Bloomberg}} 11. ^{{cite news|last1=Austen|first1=Ben|title=The MBA Program for Retired NFL Players|url=https://www.gq.com/story/nfl-mba-program|work=GQ|date=April 23, 2013|language=en}} 12. ^{{cite news|title=Columbus Short -- I'm DONE With Binge Drinking|url=https://www.tmz.com/2014/07/12/columbus-short-scandal-crisis-counselor-alcohol-excess-drinking-ed-butowsky/|work=TMZ|date=July 12, 2014}} 13. ^{{cite news|last1=Grayson|first1=Katharine|title=Group launched by Torii Hunter invests in Minneapolis startup iMyne|url=https://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/blog/in_private/2015/02/torii-hunter-clubhouse-investment-funds-imyne.html|work=Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal|date=February 27, 2015}} 14. ^{{cite news|last1=Parvini|first1=Sarah|title=Fundraiser ends for pizzeria that won't cater gay weddings, raises $842K|url=http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-nn-indiana-pizzeria-fundraiser-20150404-story.html|work=Los Angeles Times|date=April 4, 2015}} 15. ^https://www.dallasnews.com/news/courts/2018/03/15/dallas-financier-caused-seth-richs-parents-emotional-distress-role-false-story-afterslaying-lawsuit-says 16. ^{{cite news|last1=Butowsky|first1=Ed|title=The United States of Taxflation|url=http://www.theblaze.com/contributions/the-united-states-of-taxflation/|work=TheBlaze|date=April 16, 2015}} 17. ^{{cite news|last1=Barron|first1=David|title=Vince Young joins many ex-NFL players who see bankruptcy|url=http://www.chron.com/sports/longhorns/article/Vince-Young-joins-many-ex-NFL-players-who-see-5166641.php|work=Houston Chronicle|date=January 22, 2014}} 18. ^{{Cite web|url=http://www.wnd.com/2017/05/thats-patently-false-seth-rich-family-spokesman-denies-dnc-is-paying-him/|title='That's patently false!'
