He is best known for his tenure at Gardner–Webb University between 1964 and 1978. During his 14-year career there he compiled an overall record of 343 wins to just 65 losses.[1] Holbrook was the coach when the team transitioned from a junior college program to an NAIA school (beginning in 1969).[1] Eight of his players became All-Americans while five of them went onto careers in the National Basketball Association.[1] By the end of his time at Gardner–Webb he had led the Runnin' Bulldogs to seven 20-win seasons and an additional four 30-win seasons.[1] Of his 14 teams, 12 finished the season with national top-10 rankings.[1] In February 2015, the school renamed their home basketball court the "Eddie Holbrook Court."[1][2] Holbrook then coached Furman University's men's basketball team from 1978 to 1982. In just his second season he led the Paladins to the conference regular season and tournament championships, resulting in a berth into the 1980 NCAA Tournament.[3] He retired from coaching after four seasons at the school.[3] Head coaching record{{CBB Yearly Record Start | type = | conference = | postseason = | poll = }}{{CBB Yearly Record Subhead| name = Gardner–Webb Runnin' Bulldogs | conference = Junior college | startyear = 1964 | endyear = 1969 }}{{CBB Yearly Record Subhead | name = Gardner–Webb Runnin' Bulldogs | conference = NAIA | startyear = 1969 | endyear = 1978 }}{{CBB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | season = 1969–70 | name = Gardner–Webb | overall = 18–7 | conference = | confstanding = | postseason = }}{{CBB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | season = 1970–71 | name = Gardner–Webb | overall = 20–4 | conference = | confstanding = | postseason = }}{{CBB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | season = 1971–72 | name = Gardner–Webb | overall = 28–5 | conference = | confstanding = | postseason = }}{{CBB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | season = 1972–73 | name = Gardner–Webb | overall = 18–7 | conference = | confstanding = | postseason = }}{{CBB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | season = 1973–74 | name = Gardner–Webb | overall = 25–3 | conference = | confstanding = | postseason = }}{{CBB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | season = 1974–75 | name = Gardner–Webb | overall = 23–3 | conference = | confstanding = | postseason = }}{{CBB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | season = 1975–76 | name = Gardner–Webb | overall = 27–4 | conference = | confstanding = | postseason = }}{{CBB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | season = 1976–77 | name = Gardner–Webb | overall = 30–3 | conference = | confstanding = | postseason = }}{{CBB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | season = 1977–78 | name = Gardner–Webb | overall = 23–3 | conference = | confstanding = | postseason = }}{{CBB Yearly Record Subtotal | name = Gardner–Webb | overall = 343–65 ({{winpct|343|65}}) | confrecord = }}{{CBB Yearly Record Subhead | name = Furman Paladins | conference = Southern Conference | startyear = 1978 | endyear = 1982 }}{{CBB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | season = 1978–79 | name = Furman | overall = 20–9 | conference = 9–3 | confstanding = 2nd | postseason = }}{{CBB Yearly Record Entry | championship = confboth | season = 1979–80 | name = Furman | overall = 23–7 | conference = 14–1 | confstanding = 1st | postseason = NCAA First Round }}{{CBB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | season = 1980–81 | name = Furman | overall = 11–16 | conference = 8–8 | confstanding = 6th | postseason = }}{{CBB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | season = 1981–82 | name = Furman | overall = 11–16 | conference = 7–9 | confstanding = 6th | postseason = }}{{CBB Yearly Record Subtotal | name = Furman | overall = 65–48 ({{winpct|65|48}}) | confrecord = 38–21 ({{winpct|38|21}}) }}{{CBB Yearly Record End | overall = 408–113 ({{winpct|408|113}}) | legend = no }} References1. ^1 2 3 4 5 {{cite web| url =http://www.gwusports.com/sports/mbkb/2014-15/releases/201502279ttj8v| title =Gardner–Webb Dedicates Eddie Holbrook Court Thursday Night| date =February 27, 2015|website =GWUsports.com| publisher =Gardner–Webb University| access-date =December 13, 2016}} {{Gardner–Webb Runnin' Bulldogs men's basketball coach navbox}}{{Furman Paladins men's basketball coach navbox}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Holbrook, Eddie}}2. ^{{cite web| url =http://www.gardner-webb.edu/newscenter/?p=9797| title =GWU Honors Career of Former Coach Eddie Holbrook| date =February 27, 2015|website =gardner-webb.edu| publisher =Gardner–Webb University| access-date =December 13, 2016}} 3. ^1 {{cite web| url =https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/coaches/eddie-holbrook-1.html| title =Eddie Holbrook Coaching Record| date =|website =sports-reference| publisher =Sports Reference LLC| access-date =December 13, 2016}} 8 : Living people|American basketball coaches|American men's basketball players|Basketball players from North Carolina|Gardner–Webb Runnin' Bulldogs men's basketball coaches|Furman Paladins men's basketball coaches|Lenoir–Rhyne Bears men's basketball players|Year of birth missing (living people) |
