He is the CEO at Park-Ohio Holdings.[2] a provider for supply technologies and manufactured components.[3] He is CEO of Beech Technology Systems, a tool manufacturer for military, aeronautics, and commercial industries.[4] He serves as Director for Joy Global Conveyors,[5] a manufacturer of conveyor systems[6] and as Director for Hickok Incorporated,[2] an electronic diagnostic tools and equipment manufacturer.[7] In September 2018, he was approved to be US Ambassador to Ireland.[8][9] Early life and educationCrawford's parents were Irish immigrants from Cork. His mother, Kate (Kay) Crawford nee Healy, originally came from Boherbue. [10]In 1948 his father, an electrician, together with Crawford's mother and two brothers wanted to move to California. During the move as they were traveling on Route 20 in Ohio their car broke down. His mother found an apartment for the family in Cleveland Heights and the family stayed in Ohio, where Crawford grew up.[11] In the early 1960s Crawford was attending night school at John Carroll University.[12] CareerApart from attending night school Crawford also worked in sales at Inland Steel Company when he wanted to start his business career.[12] In 1962 he dropped out of University after a 2½ year period of launch his own business.[13] In 1963 Crawford and his business partner Christopher Page had officially launched Cleveland Steel Container, a company that produced five-gallon steel pails. He is still CEO at Cleveland Steel Container. In addition to the company, Crawford established The Crawford Group[12] a venture capital and management consulting company[14] in 1964.[13] In 1992 he sold his company Kay Home Products, which was named after his mother, Kay Crawford, to Park-Ohio Industries. As a result of the transaction, he became not only a major shareholder, but also chairman and CEO of Park-Ohio Industries. Back then, Park-Ohio was doing about $60 million in sales. With time the company's sales have risen to $1.3 billion.[13] From 1997 to 2003 Crawford also served as the President of Park-Ohio Holdings. He has been involved in a number of other companies. Since 2012 he is Director at Hickok Incorporated, an electronic diagnostic tools and equipment manufacturer.[7] Since 2014 he served as Director of Materion,[2] a producer of high performance advanced engineered materials.[14] Personal lifeHe is married to Mary Crawford. Their son Matthew, who attended Marshall Law School, is involved in the family business.[11] Crawford is a passionate basketball player. He plays on an AAU National Seniors Basketball Team out of Dallas.[13] AwardsIn 1969, the Small Business Administration selected Crawford as Ohio Small Businessman of the Year.
