Elisha Wiesel (born June 6, 1972) is an American businessman and the only child of Jewish writer, activist, and Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel. He serves as the chief information officer of Goldman Sachs.

Early and personal life

Elisha Wiesel was born June 6, 1972.[1] His father, Elie Wiesel, was a Holocaust survivor of Hungarian and Romanian Jewish descent, and an author.[1][2] His mother, Marion Erster Rose, was a Holocaust survivor of Austrian Jewish descent and translator.[3] He was raised in Manhattan and suburban New Jersey, and attended Yale University. He has two children: a son, Elijah, and daughter, Shira.[4]

Career

Wiesel joined the J. Aron division of Goldman Sachs in 1994.[1][2] He became a managing director in 2002 and a partner in 2004.[5][6] He later served as the chief risk officer of its securities division and global head of its securities division desk strategists.[1][2] In January 2017, he succeeded R. Martin Chavez as its chief information officer.[1][2]

Philanthropy and political activity

Wiesel has organized fundraisers for Good Shepherd Services, a Brooklyn-based after-school program charity, at Goldman Sachs since 2013.[1][7]

Wiesel criticized president-elect Donald Trump's policies at an event held at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum on November 30, 2016.[8] At another event held at the Museum of Jewish Heritage on January 29, 2017, he suggested protesting against the Executive Order 13769 was part of his father's legacy.[9]
