It has smooth bark over most of the tree with some rough grey fibrous bark at the base. The concolorous, glossy, green or sometimes bluish green adult leaves are alternately arranged. The leaf blade is a lanceolate shape with a length of {{cvt|5.8|to|11|cm}} and a width of {{cvt|1|to|2.5|cm}} with a base that tapers to the petiole, and an acute apex.[2] It blooms between October and March producing cream-white flowers.[1] The species was first formally described by the botanist Ferdinand von Mueller in 1880 as part of the work Fragmenta Phytographiae Australiae.[3] The type specimen was collected by George Maxwell. The specific epithet honours Ellwood Cooper, a Californian horticulturalist, who introduced many species of Eucalyptus to the United States[2] and wrote Forest Culture and Eucalyptus trees.[4] It is found on sand plains along south coast in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia in sandy-clay soils over limestone.[1] It is found east of Esperance to Israelite Bay.[4] See also{{Portal|Trees}}
