|}}Eucalyptus cyclostoma is a eucalypt that is native to Western Australia.[1]

Description

The tree typically grows to a height of {{convert|1.5|to|4|m|ft|0}}[1] and has a lignotuber. It has whitish-grey-cream, brown and pinkish grey coloured bark that is flaky to ribbony can be rough or smooth. The concolorous, dull, bluish green to green adult leaves are alternately arranged. The leaf blade has a lanceolate shape with a length of {{cvt|6|to|10|cm}} and a width of {{cvt|1|to|1.5|cm|abbr=on}} with a base that tapers to the petiole and a pointed apex.[2] It blooms between February and April and produces white flowers.[1] The axillary unbranched inflorescences are found in groups of 7 to 11 buds per umbel. The cylindrical to pyriform shaped mature buds are scarred and have a beaked operculum with inflexed stamens and oblong anthers. The fruits that form after flowering are pedicellate with a truncate-globose shape. The fruit are {{cvt|0.8|to|1|cm|abbr=on}} in length and about as wide with a vertically descending sics and three of four rim level valves. The brown seeds inside have a flattened ovoid shape and a length of {{cvt|1|to|2|mm|abbr=on}}.[2]

Taxonomy

The species was first formally described by the botanist Ian Brooker in 1981 as part of the work A new series, Oulares, of the genus Eucalyptus based on the subseries Ovularinae as published in the journal Brunonia.[3]

The type specimen was collected to the west of Balladonia by Brooker in 1970. The specific epithet is taken from the Greek words cyclo meaning ring and stoma meaning mouth or opening in reference to the marked rim of the fruit.[2]

E. cyclostoma is part of the subgenus Symphyomyrtus section Dumaria in a sub-group of nine closely related species called series Ovulares. The smooth barked members of this series include; E. cyclostoma, Eucalyptus cylindrocarpa, Eucalyptus exigua and Eucalyptus oraria and rough barked members include; Eucalyptus ovularis, Eucalyptus aequioperta, Eucalyptus brachycorys, Eucalyptus myriadena and Eucalyptus baudiniana and[4]

Distribution

The tree is found on limestone plains on the south western Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia growing in sandy loam or red sand soils.[1] The malless has a limited range around Balladonia and Zanthus where it part of low woodland communities.[2]
