DescriptionThe mallee or tree typically grows to a height of {{convert|1.5|to|15|m|ft|0}}[1] with a width of {{convert|3|to|6|m|ft|0}}[3] and has rough, flaky and ribbony bark that is grey in colour with white patches. Adult leaves are disjunct, dull, grey-green, thick and concolorous. The leaf blade has a lanceolate shape and is basally tapered. The petioles are narrowly flattened or channelled.[2] It blooms between August and January and produces a thick covering of cream-white flowers. The simple axillary conflorescence with eleven-flowered umbellasters on terete peduncles. Fruits form later with a globose or hemispherical shape and with a depressed disc.[2] TaxonomyThe species was first described in 1837 by the botanist Stephan Endlicher in the work Endlicher, Fenzl, Bentham & Schott, Enumeratio Plantarum Huegel from samples collected around King George Sound near Albany by Hugel.[2] Common names for the species include, moit, redheart,[3] and limestone marlock. DistributionFound on sandplains, hills and along the edges of swamps in the Wheatbelt, South West and Great Southern regions of Western Australia growing in clay, loam or sandy soils over laterite.[1] See also{{Portal|Trees}}
