|name= |status = |status_system = |genus = Eucalyptus |species = extensa |authority = L.A.S.Johnson & K.D.Hill |}}Eucalyptus extensa is a eucalypt that is native to Western Australia.[1] DescriptionThe mallee typically grows to a height of {{convert|3|to|8|m|ft|0}} and has smooth powdery bark throughout that is grey or grey-brown to green or yellow in colour.[2] It blooms in March producing yellow flowers on a[1] simple axillary conflorescence with regular seven-flowered umbellasters.[2] The erect and shortly pedicellate fruit have a hemispherical shape and are {{convert|0.6|to|0.8|cm|in|2}} in length and {{convert|0.8|to|1.2|cm|in|2|abbr=on}} wide. The fruit have a narrow disc and three or four vertically to obliquely descending valves that are strongly exserted. Inside the fruit are brown to straw-coloured seeds with a cuboid to ovoid shape and a length of {{convert|1.8|to|3|mm|in|3}}.[3] TaxonomyThe species was first formally described by the botanists Lawrence Alexander Sidney Johnson and Ken Hill in 1991 as part of the work Systematic studies in the eucalyptus - A revision of the gimlets and related species; Eucalyptus extracodical series Salubres and Annulatae (Myrtaceae) as published in the journal Telopea.[4] The specific epithet is taken from the Latin word extensus meaning stretched out or extended in reference to the long opercula on the buds.[3] DistributionThe range of the plant is on sandplains and undulating areas along the south of Western Australia in the southern Wheatbelt and south western Goldfields-Esperance regions where it grows in red loam, grey sandy loam and sometimes gravelly soils.[1] See also{{Portal|Trees}}
